Gallery of Modern Art, Refurbishment

We are delighted to have completed the fit-out, alterations and refurbishment project within the Gallery of Modern Art One for the National Galleries of Scotland. The space is looking bright and refreshed featuring new exterior cladding, a new purpose built storage facility, renewed timber sash & case windows and refurbished office suites & facilities. SJS are delighted to have successfully delivered another quality project for our valued client the National Galleries of Scotland.

Welcome Declan Bowyer!

We are delighted to welcome Declan Bowyer into the SJS bespoke manufacturing joinery team.  Declan started his modern apprenticeship this week as a bench hand joiner and is one of three new apprentices joining SJS’s annual apprenticeship development programme this summer.  Declan will benefit from the very best training and development from our experienced and professional craftsmen and we wish him every success as he sets out on his chosen career. We are delighted to have secured the refurbishment and conversion of 21 Stafford Street in central Edinburgh. We look forward to working successfully in partnership with Lynsay Bell Architects, Axiom and David Narro Associates to deliver another quality project.

Welcome Brian Philip!

Brian Philip becomes the newest member of our bespoke manufacturing joinery team, starting his modern apprenticeship with SJS as a bench hand joiner. SJS Apprenticeship Program

As modern apprenticeships play an increasingly important part in Scotland’s construction industry, we are delighted that the Minister for Employability & Training, Jamie Hepburn, has recognised the significant investment made by the SJS through our apprenticeship & development program.  Today we welcomed Jamie along with Nicola Swan (SDS), Marie Donnelly (SDS) and Paul McGillivray (Scottish Gov) to meet with 4 of our 6 current apprentices. SJS recognises the future success of our specialist manufacturing service depends on our ability to develop new talent and maintain a team with traditional craftsmanship skills.  2 further new apprentices will be starting their careers with SJS next week.

Central Hall – Alterations & Refurbishment Works

We are delighted to have secured the internal alterations and refurbishment of the entrance area, lobby and toilet spaces within the prestigious Edinburgh Central Hall, built by the Methodist Church back in 1901. We look forward to working successfully in partnership with McLean Architects to deliver another quality project.

Chrystal MacMillan Building, The University of Edinburgh

We are delighted to have secured the alterations and refurbishment of the printing space within the Chrystal MacMillan Building for The University of Edinburgh. The facility will be converted into a modern, bright and  vibrant meeting pod, appealing to both students and staff. We look forward to working successfully in partnership with the UoE Team, Taylor Associates (M&E) Ltd and Currie & Brown (PQS) to deliver another quality project for our valued client The University of Edinburgh.

Joseph Black Building, The University of Edinburgh

We are delighted to have secured the alteration and refurbishment of Teaching Spaces in the Joseph Black Building for The University of Edinburgh. We look forward to working successfully in partnership with the UoE Team, Taylor Associates (M&E) Ltd and Thomson Gray in providing quality upgraded lecture theatre facilities for the Department of Chemistry in this latest project for our valued client The University of Edinburgh.
