Laboratory Refurbishment, University of Edinburgh

Alterations to existing room layouts and refurbishment of ground floor of the Alrick building at King’s Buildings, Edinburgh. Works included; downtakings, new partitions, doors, finishes, laboratory benches, internal drainage works and services installations. The works were phased in order to allow for sectional completion.

Form of Contract:

Standard Building Contract without Quantities for use in Scotland SBC/XQ/SCOT (2016 Edition)

The full works comprised of:

  • Isolated down takings and removals
  • Mechanical and Electrical installations including Ducting & Ventilation
  • Installation of temporary services to maintain a live site
  • New floor, wall and ceiling finishes
  • Installation of Laboratory equipment and benches and associated fixtures
  • Terminating new ductwork with air handling plant at roof level

All works were undertaken within a live environment. Buildings situated around the site were in use including other areas within Alrick. Efficient planning and phasing of the works combined with effective communication from our site management team ensured all building stakeholders were made fully aware and conversant with all work activities, thus allowing the project to be completed on programme, safely and within budget.
