Standard Building Contract with Quantities for use in Scotland SBC/Q/SCOT (2016 Edition)

Description:

Works to create a new Class 2 Lab Facility within the 1st floor of the existing James Nasmyth Building, situated at the University’s Edinburgh Campus. The works will comprise the refurbishment and conversion of three existing rooms: Department Office, Enquires Office and Staff Office creating a new Biological and Engineering Lab. The newly refurbished rooms will create the new MKK Laboratory.

The full works comprised:

• New fixed benching
• Mobile workbench
• Fume cupboard
• Tables, chairs and stools
• New floor finishes
• New suspended ceiling & flat panel lighting
• Plasterboard lining of existing walls.
• Full decoration
• New dado trunking with data supplies.
• New optical smoke alarms and sounder beacons.

The building remained in use and occupied by HWU staff and students throughout the duration of the project. Integration of the new M&E services into the existing building facilities was carefully co-ordinated and phased to prevent disruption to the ongoing university operations. Careful planning of the works, site communication and sequencing of the work ensured safety, minimal disruption to building users and a successfully delivered project.
