Loretto School, Holm House

This design and build project involved the refurbishment of a 1970’s boarding accomodation at Holm House to provide updated modern vibrant facilities and living areas for the senior students whilst enhancing their experience and enjoyment during their stay.

The works comprised:
• Removal of existing floor finishes, ceilings and partitions
• Removal of existing bedroom, kitchen and bathroom fixtures and fittings
• Strip out of existing M&E services (heating, lighting, power and ventilation)
• Installation of new Eco Efficient M&E services
• Installation of new toilets, shower rooms and changing facilities
• Installation of new tea prep and kitchen facilities
• Installation of new floor finishes, decoration and ceilings throughout

The project was delivered over 4 phases during each of the mid term, Christmas, Easter and summer school recesses to minimise disruption to the pupils and provide the new facilities fully operational for the commencement of the new academic term. Works were undertaken whilst the adjacent student accommodation remained fully operation for summer student conferences and residential engagements.

Loretto School, Sports Hall

This design and build project involved the refurbishment of a 1970’s sports hall to provide modern and vibrant sports facilities incorporating the latest technology and sports equipment for the pupils and enhancing the experience and enjoyment for the pupils at school which excels in sporting development and achievements.

The full works comprised:

• Removal of existing roof structure and replacement with insulated profiled roof cladding.
• Strip out of existing M&E services (heating, lighting, power and ventilation)
• Installation of new Eco Friendly M&E services
• Demolition and downtakings and structural alterations of existing partitioning to convert existing changing and storage spaces into a modern fitness suite
• New toilet, shower and changing facilities
• Installation of multi-layered sports flooring complete with all sports markings

The project was delivered during the summer recess to minimise disruption to the pupils and provide the new facilities fully operational for the commencement of the new academic year.

Internal Alterations, Central Hall, Edinburgh

The project involved the Internal & external alteration and upgrading of the Dunbar Street entrance along with internal alteration, refurbishment and upgrading of the male and female toilets on the first floor.

The full works comprised:

• Removal and alterations to partitions
• New External Door
• New Ceilings
• Removal of existing toilets and services
• Installation of new toilets and associated services
• Decoration, finishes and floor coverings throughout the areas of work

All works were undertaken in a live environment with the client’s normal business operations ongoing throughout the works. Careful planning of the works and excellent daily communication ensured minimal disruption with dust control and third party health & safety both being significant factors in the successful delivery of the project.

NG.10 Laboratory, Heriot Watt University

The contract involved the alterations & refurbishment of an existing double height laboratory space within the John Coulson Building of the Heriot Watt University Edinburgh Campus.

The full works comprised:

• Demolitions and Down-takings
• Installation of a new structural steel mezzanine floor built off of the existing structural framework
• Partitioning
• External and internal door sets
• Alterations to the existing and new plumbing
• Mechanical and electrical installations
• New floor wall and ceiling finishes
• Reconfiguration of the external ramp at the external door
• Removal of asbestos

The project was delivered in a live environment with surrounding university buildings being occupied throughout the construction period. Careful planning & management, effective communication and client liason ensured safe and efficient project delivery. The project was completed on program with minimal disruption to the surrounding university buildings, staff and students.

Gallery of Modern Art Refurbishment, National Galleries of Scotland

The contract involved the construction of an art delivery area in the conservation department, the refurbishment of office spaces, corridors, toilets, tea prep area and the provision of a new loading bay and associated services in the Modern 1 Building, Belford Road, Edinburgh.

The full works comprised:

• Demolitions and Downtakings
• Construction of new loading bay and storage building
• Joinery works & Partitioning
• External and internal door sets
• New & refurbished timber sash and case windows to match existing
• Alterations to the existing and new plumbing
• Mechanical and electrical installations
• New floor wall and ceiling finishes
• Landscaping and paving

All works were undertaken within a live environment. The building was occupied during the construction period.

Quantum Packaging, Factory Refurbishment

This design and build project transformed a disused warehouse into a modern production facility for Quantum Packaging to produce airtight sealing products for food processing packaging. As well as providing clean and bright production area, the project including office and welfare facilities and a bright and welcoming reception area.

The full works comprised:

• Removal and down-takings of existing fixtures, floors, ceilings and non-load bearing partitions
• New Partitions, internal doors and ceilings to form new reception and office facilities
• Plastering and decoration throughout
• Supply and Installation of soft flooring
• M&E services, lighting, ventilation, fire detection and alarm system Installation
• Automated roller shutter door
• Polished and sealed concrete warehouse floor

The project was successfully completed within the very tight and challenging contract timescale with client satisfaction in both the execution of the works and the finished product.

HMYOI Polmont, Scottish Prison Service

The Scottish Prison Service (SPS) has an on-going requirement to care for prisoners with dignity and humanity also extends to prisoners and their visiting families. The project involved the formation of a new meeting facility within the Main Entrance of HMYOI Polmont, in order to create a safe, welcoming environment where visitors are met with dignity and respect with a view to improving the quality of family access and provide young people’s visitors with support on any issues or difficulties which they may face. It was critical that the new meeting facility was
constructed to high aesthetic standard equaling the quality standard of the existing surrounding finishes. All works were undertaken outside of normal working hours under lock-down conditions, carried out in a live operational secure prison environment with various elements of the work being subject to full escort procedures.

The full works comprised:

• Installation of temporary hoarding with temporary access door to screen works from staff and visitors.
• Various minor sundry down takings and furniture removal.
• Undertake design development and co-ordination with the SPS Project Management and Establishment representatives to provide detailed design of new glazed partition system and integrated building services within the new office meeting area.
• Installation of new glazed partitioning system with single access door with load bearing lid over capable of incorporating fan coil units.
• Builders work to extend building services form adjacent Visitors Waiting facility
• New M&E Service installations (AC/Vent, Lighting, Power and Fire Detection), integrated into the existing BMS.
• Suspended ceiling installation.
• Decoration to solid internal walls
• New soft floor finish to Office Area.
• Design, manufacture and installation of feature timber bulkhead to match existing reception features.

Careful and efficient planning, co-ordination, programming and sequencing of the works, stringent adherence to security protocol and establishment procedures along with effective communication with staff ensured the project was successfully delivered within a very tight 4 week period without incident or disruption to the ongoing operation of the secure facility.

EH20, Office Refurbishment

The contract involved the alterations and refurbishment of an existing business centre in Edinburgh. The new modern and vibrant office suites and board rooms feature variable LED coloured lighting surrounds and bespoke furniture all designed and manufactured in our state of the art production facility.  Further upgrading works included the alterations and upgrading of toilet and kitchen facilities creating first class modern serviced office accommodation.

The full works comprised:

• Removal of existing lighting, M&E services, fire alarm system, carpets and ceilings.
• Installation of M&E services including ventilation.• Installation of suspending ceilings throughout.
• Decoration and wall finishes throughout.• Bespoke office furniture, meeting room table and desks.

Another project successfully delivered and another very satisfied client with the first phase of the refurbishment works for the EH20 Business Centre at Bilston Glen, Edinburgh completed and handed over on programme.

Earl Mountbatten Building, Robotarium, Heriot Watt University

The contract involved the refurbishment of laboratory spaces in the Heriot Watt University Earl Mountbatten Building. The contract involved the complete refurbishment and alterations of corridors, entrances, existing high voltage labs and robotics labs to form a new human-robot-interaction (HRI)laboratory, land robot space, entrance way and observation room

 

The full works comprised:
• Downtakings and removal of M&E services, partitions, flooring, laboratory furniture and fixtures.
• Refurbishment of existing High Voltage Lab G81 to form new Human-Robot- Interaction (HRI) Laboratory, and Land Robot Space.
• Refurbishment of existing Laboratory G80 to form Observation room with viewing panels into HRI space.
• Alterations to existing corridor, Research laboratories G82 and G84, and office G83, to form new Entrance
Presentation Area.
• Alteration to corridor access routes between existing stairwell and corridor.
• New circulation zone and fire escape door to suit emergency escape requirements from new rooms.

All works were undertaken within a live environment and SJS were highly successful at ensuring safety and minimizing disruption to staff undertaking their daily operations. Cadzow Place, Edinburgh

The contract involved the alterations, refurbishment and fit-out of an existing retail property in Cadzow Place, Edinburgh. The existing interiors have been completely refurbished to create a bright and vibrant space which includes multiple offices, an interview room, a reception area and a conference room. The existing historic features were restored and retained to preserve the character of the building. Further upgrading works included the alterations and upgrading of stair case, toilet and kitchen facilities creating first class modern office environment.
