UoE, Sanderson Building, Reception Desk In Production

The finishing touches are being applied to an oak reception desk produced in our specialist joinery manufacturing facility for our valued client the University of Edinburgh. The curved reception desk is part of our project to refurbish and repurpose an office space within the University of Edinburgh Sanderson Building to form a board room for the school of Engineering.

Training & Development of our staff

As we continue to grow our business, the training & development of our staff is key to the long-term success of SJS. Enhancing career opportunity is also a key focus of our business so we are delighted our Paul Brown, (Media and Business Support Coordinator) will begin a part-time degree course at Edinburgh Napier University in September, studying Quantity Surveying.  As a result of this investment, Paul’s role will increase to support both the estimating and surveying teams in providing quality commercial management to our professional Project Operations (Fit-out, Refurbishment & Alterations) and Bespoke Manufactured Joinery services. Best wishes Paul in your studies.

Loretto Sports Hall Refurbishment

Our project to refurbish the Loretto School Sports Hall is progressing well. The project being carried out during the schools summer holiday is on schedule to be completed in August for the students returning from their summer break.  The refurbishment will provide much improved sporting facilities including a vibrant main hall and new fitness suite along with a complete new roof and modern heating, ventilation and lighting systems. Another quality transformation for our valued client Loretto School.

NG.10 Lab, John Coulson Building, HWU

Another University test successfully passed by SJS! We are delighted to have completed the alteration & refurbishment of the new NG.10 laboratory space within the John Coulson Building for Heriot Watt University. The refreshed two storey laboratory now benefits from a new mezzanine level creating valuable additional space within the previous laboratory area. We are delighted to have worked in partnership with ECD Architects, Cundall, KJ Tait Engineers, Summers Inman and Keegans Group in providing quality upgraded and refurbished facilities in this latest project for our valued client Heriot Watt University.

Gallery of Modern Art, Refurbishment

We are delighted to have completed the fit-out, alterations and refurbishment project within the Gallery of Modern Art One for the National Galleries of Scotland. The space is looking bright and refreshed featuring new exterior cladding, a new purpose built storage facility, renewed timber sash & case windows and refurbished office suites & facilities. SJS are delighted to have successfully delivered another quality project for our valued client the National Galleries of Scotland.

Welcome Declan Bowyer!

We are delighted to welcome Declan Bowyer into the SJS bespoke manufacturing joinery team.  Declan started his modern apprenticeship this week as a bench hand joiner and is one of three new apprentices joining SJS’s annual apprenticeship development programme this summer.  Declan will benefit from the very best training and development from our experienced and professional craftsmen and we wish him every success as he sets out on his chosen career.
